Shawton Engineering was pivotal in the Angel Gardens project in Manchester, a remarkable 100-metre (360-foot) tall skyscraper comprising 35 storeys and 466 rental apartments. Angel Gardens stands as the 16th-tallest building in Manchester, symbolising a significant milestone in urban development.
Angel Gardens is an integral part of the 20-acre NOMA redevelopment, a major urban regeneration project aimed at revitalising the northern part of Manchester city centre. Shawton Engineering was responsible for designing, fabricating, and installing the balconies for Angel Gardens. Our involvement was crucial in ensuring that the balconies met the architectural vision and adhered to the highest standards of safety and durability.
The project was co-designed by architects Fuse Studios and HAUS Collective, and Shawton Engineering had to ensure that the balconies were seamlessly integrated with the building’s overall design. Our team worked closely with the architects to bring their vision to life, using advanced techniques and materials to create functional and visually appealing balconies.
Challenges and Solutions
One of the main challenges of the Angel Gardens project was ensuring that the balconies could withstand the demands of high-rise living while providing residents with safe and enjoyable outdoor spaces. Our team addressed these challenges through meticulous planning and innovative engineering solutions.
The balconies were designed, fabricated, and assembled at our fabrication facility in Newton-le-Willows. Once the fabrication process was complete, they were carefully transported to the site, arriving fully assembled and ready for immediate installation. This streamlined approach minimised on-site construction time and maintained the highest quality standards.
The Result
Adding high-quality balconies to Angel Gardens significantly enhances the living experience for residents, providing outdoor spaces in a bustling urban environment. These balconies contribute to the overall appeal of the apartments, making Angel Gardens a sought-after residence in Manchester.
The successful implementation of this project showcases Shawton Engineering’s ability to deliver complex and high-profile projects, reinforcing our reputation as a leader in the engineering sector. We’re capable of tackling the most challenging projects with precision and expertise.
